On the day we agree on, leave small items on the porch or driveway — you don't need to be home for those. Heavy items, appliances and anything inside need someone there to give me access.

## First: who owns it?

Look for a sticker on the frame, the base or the motor — the supplier’s name and phone number are usually on it. If the equipment came from hospice, or it is still being rented, call that number before anything else and ask whether it is yours now. If it isn’t, it goes back to them, and they will tell you how.

## It works and someone needs it: donate it

Adelante’s Back in Use program (a nonprofit) gives wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds and more to people who need them. The equipment must work — they don’t repair it. Donations are by appointment at (505) 341-7171; ask about pickup of a larger item. Need a donation receipt? Ask them — Abq Reclaimed is a for-profit business and can’t give one.

## Broken, partial or leftover: the parts I take free

A power chair that won’t hold a charge or an adjustable bed with a dead motor is still full of parts someone is hunting for to keep the same model running. I pick these up free, by request:

- Power-chair and scooter controllers, joysticks, cables and harnesses
- Motors and gearboxes
- Seat, headrest and armrest parts, wheels and casters
- Adjustable-bed motors, control boxes, remotes and hand controls
- Lift-chair motors and hand controls

### What parts like these turn into

- **From parents' houses and senior moves:** an adjustable-bed motor, a bed control box and remotes, a power-chair controller, a wheelchair headrest and Invacare parts — the kind of thing that comes out of a long-lived-in house, going to people who needed that exact replacement part.
