A lot of clothing collectors are vague about what happens after they take your bags. We'd rather just tell you straight, because trust is the whole point of letting someone haul off your stuff.
We're a for-profit reuse business — and that's good for you
Abq Reclaimed isn't a 501(c)(3) charity, so a pickup with us isn't tax-deductible. We're a local reuse business: we resell the items that can be resold. That's not a catch — it's exactly what lets us offer pickup for free, show up reliably, and absorb the cost of recycling the things that can't be sold. Our incentive (recover as much value as possible) lines up with yours (keep good stuff out of the trash). If you specifically want a tax receipt, we'll happily point you to the registered nonprofits in town — no hard feelings.
What happens to everything you give us
- 1. We collect it Bagged from your porch, kept dry on the way to sorting — moisture is the fastest way for good clothing to be ruined.
- 2. We sort it honestly Every item gets assessed: wearable, fixable, or past wearing. We don't pre-judge your bags — value hides in places you wouldn't guess.
- 3. We resell & rehome the wearable Clothing that can be worn again is sold and rehomed so it stays in use. Reuse is the single best outcome for a garment.
- 4. We pass the rest to other reuse and recycling partners Worn-out textiles we can't resell or rehome go to other reuse and recycling partners, so they get another shot instead of going straight to the trash.
- 5. The small share that truly can't be saved Wet, moldy, or contaminated items can't be reused or recycled — they'd spoil everything around them. We're honest that this share exists; our whole process is built to keep it as small as possible.
Our commitments to you
Any condition. Bring wearable and worn alike — we sort it so you don't have to.
Best resources, always. We route unsellable items to the best reuse and recycling options we can find.
Landfill last. We do everything we reasonably can to keep textiles out of the landfill.
Straight talk. We tell you we're for-profit and that pickups aren't tax-deductible — up front.
What we'll never claim
- That we're a charity, or that your pickup is tax-deductible. (We're not, and it isn't.)
- That literally 100% of everything avoids the landfill. We keep as much out as we possibly can, and we won't pretend the unsalvageable share doesn't exist.
- That your clothes do more good than they do. We'd rather under-promise and over-deliver.
That's the whole deal: an easy, free way to clear out your closet, run by people who actually want your textiles to get a second life. Want the step-by-step from your side? See how it works or follow a bag through the process.
