I pick it up at no cost and give it a second life through resale and reuse.
Before you ask — the honest limits. Abq Reclaimed is just me, and I run a few community projects at once. So free pickups are limited and entirely at my discretion — I can't take everything, and some weeks I can't do pickups at all. Send a photo and I'll tell you honestly whether I can fit it in; if I can't, I'll point you elsewhere. (Prefer to drop off? We can sometimes arrange that by appointment.) When I do collect, a few days later I send you a Reclaim Receipt telling you where your stuff went.
The storage-unit math
People rent storage for a move, a divorce, a parent's downsizing, or "just until I sort it" — and then pay for years. When the day comes to empty it, the question is always the same: what's worth anything, and what do I do with the rest? I answer that honestly, from photos, before anyone loads a truck.
What I take from a unit
- Tools, hardware, and shop equipment
- Electronics, audio gear, computers — working or not
- Camping gear, bikes, sporting goods, musical instruments
- Vintage and collectible finds: records, cameras, games, toys, old machines
- Small appliances and quality kitchen gear
- Clean, wearable clothing and linens (boxed clothes that sat for years often aren't — I'll say so)
- Genuine mid-century-modern furniture (that's the only furniture I take)
What I'll tell you to do with the rest
General furniture, mattresses, and boxes of paperwork or true junk aren't mine — but I'll tell you which pieces the Habitat ReStore or the City of Albuquerque's large-item pickup will take, and which ones need a paid hauler. You keep the money for what's genuinely valuable (sell it yourself — my guide shows where), I take the resale-worthy middle for free, and the rest gets a clear plan.
Facility managers: abandoned-unit contents after an auction or lien process often include exactly the goods I take. If you handle those regularly, see partners — I'm a one-person operation and I'll be honest about volume, but a standing arrangement can work.

Common questions
Do you empty the whole storage unit?
I take the resale-worthy share free — tools, electronics, gear, collectibles, wearable clothing, and genuine mid-century furniture. For general furniture, mattresses, paperwork, and junk I will tell you honestly which local option takes each, so the unit still gets emptied — just not all by me.
Can you meet me at the storage facility?
Usually yes, by request — most Albuquerque-area facilities work fine. Send photos of the contents first so I can confirm it is worth the trip for both of us, then we pick a time that fits my routes.
What about a unit I won at auction or an abandoned unit?
Send photos. Auction units are a mixed bag by nature; I will tell you what I can take free and what is better sold yourself or hauled. If you buy or manage units regularly, ask about a standing arrangement.
Is it free? Really?
Yes — no fee, no minimum. I resell the good items and reclaim the metal, and that pays for the haul. Pickup is by request and at my discretion; drop-off by text is the surest path for a small load.
Is a pickup tax-deductible?
No — Abq Reclaimed is a for-profit reuse business, not a 501(c)(3). You get a Reclaim Receipt (where it went), not a tax receipt.
