How to donate kids' clothes without the hassle

Outgrown clothes multiply overnight. Here is how to clear them fast — and where they should go.

Few things accumulate faster than kids' clothing. The moment you organize a drawer, another size is outgrown. Here is a simple system to stay ahead of it and move the outgrown pile along without it taking over a closet.

Sort by size, not sentiment

Pull anything your child has outgrown into a bag immediately — do not overthink condition or memories. If it does not fit, it does not belong in the active drawer. Keep a small keepsake box for the few truly special pieces, and let the rest go.

Don't toss the stained stuff

Kids' clothes take a beating, and a lot of it ends up stained or worn through. That does not make it trash. Wearable pieces are rehomed to families who need them, and worn-out items are passed on for recycling. Bag it all together — no sorting required.

Set up a "grow-out" bag

Keep one bag or bin in the closet labeled "outgrown." The second something no longer fits, it goes straight in. When the bag is full, you book a pickup. It turns an overwhelming purge into a effortless, rolling habit.

Get it picked up free

When the bag is full, request a pickup and leave it by the door. We collect outgrown kids' and baby clothes across Albuquerque in any condition — free and contactless. See our kids' clothes pickup page for details.
